One of the more unusual and fun assignments I have had as a photojournalist was to photograph fire dancers who were getting ready for Burning Man 2006. Keith Barefoot and Rebecca Picker of
Nocturnal Sunshine entertained crowds at a private birthday party in Santa Cruz.
A mostly silent crowd (apart from uncontrollable gasps of shock and admiration) watched them perform. They got the fire both close to each other and themselves, without flinching, or missing, even managing to talk to the crowd while twisting and twirling fire about themselves.
